Rock Climbing in the Peak District

These sketches and paintings will then be worked on in the workspace, with participants producing a number of abstract landscapes in acrylic paint to be displayed in the local community. The group has sole use of the venue, which is centered on an open courtyard and has a roof terrace with views over the countryside. The fee encompasses five days’ art instruction; full board; and an excursion to the local castle and additional points of interest.

Vegetarian Cooking in the Algarve
This Mediterranean foodie getaway, set on a villa by the river in the inland Portuguese region, is inspired by the plant-based cuisine of celebrated cooks. Guests will master the art of selection of small dishes, take part in a hands-on falafel session, perfect brunch dishes such as shakshuka, and make hearty mains including spicy mushroom ragu and moussaka. The schedule includes trips to the village market and a nearby winery to sample local vintages, along with leisure time for strolls by the Funcho River, to relax on the terrace or swim in the pool. Hip Hop in High Wycombe
This energetic camp is an energizing, inclusive three-day adults’ street dance camp in High Wycombe. The format each day is a high-energy group warmup, then several hour-and-a-half classes covering various street dance styles, then an hour-long freestyle session to demonstrate those solos. Dancers are divided into levels based on ability and experience, so it is suitable for those who are completely new to popping and locking, all the way to experienced performers or instructors. This event does not provide lodging but there are a number of hostels and hotels nearby, and it is under an hour by train into London.

Maritime Singing Weekend in St Ives
This coastal town is the excellent location for a maritime music retreat. Guests will be taught historic sailing songs from a folk singer and vocal coach, and try their hand at writing their own. The schedule includes voice exercises, breathing exercises, stagecraft advice and a final evening concert. The holiday is based at a country house overlooking St Ives Bay. All meals are provided, such as a traditional tea on arrival, breakfast options, packed lunches and three-course dinners. Grog, alas, is not included. Writing in Crete
Writer and tutor Greg Mosse conducts the daily workshops on this writing retreat. He explores everything from story structure, characters, locations and tension, to sending manuscripts to agents. A co-host, the well-known writer Kate Mosse, will co-host events at the start and finish of the week. The retreat is held at a village-style hotel in Vamos at the base of the Lefka Ori – ten one- and two-bedroom cottages are set around a central garden with a pool (non-writing partners are welcome to come along). On the last night, budding authors mark the occasion with a concert in the garden and a final meal.
