Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of player Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the NFL.
The organization did not mention Rice by name in their announcement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Posted on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete directly, shared a set of images on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones stated the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with Rice, whom the team drafted in the second round.
Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File
No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have occurred.
Player's Recent Legal Issues
The receiver missed the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left several individuals injured. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
Statistically, Rice concluded the year with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
