Democratic lawmakers Condemn Trump After He Claims They Should Face Execution

Democratic officials voiced anger after Donald Trump accused a contingent of Democratic congress members of being "betrayers" and asserted they should be detained and punished "by death" following their release of a contentious video.

The Content That Triggered the Controversy

The recorded message, published on Tuesday, includes six Democratic congress members who previously worked in armed forces or defense capacities.

"Like us, you all made an vow to protect and uphold this national charter," the representatives stated in the brief video. "At present, the dangers to our constitution aren't just from overseas, but from domestically. Our regulations are unambiguous, you can decline improper directives, you can refuse illegal orders, you should reject unlawful commands. No one has to follow orders that break the law or our constitution."

The Former President's Angry Response

The video message appeared to provoke a heated response from the former president.

On Thursday morning, Trump wrote on his social media platform: "It's called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these traitors to our United States should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In another publication, he wrote: "This constitutes really serious, and Harmful to our United States. Their statements cannot be enabled to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a subsequent post, he continued: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!" He also shared a declaration that said: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Democratic Leaders React

Following Trump's statements on that day, Democratic leadership issued a joint declaration denouncing the remarks.

"Partisan aggression has no place in this nation," they wrote. "Congress members who were featured in the video all served our nation with great patriotism and excellence. We clearly censure Donald Trump's offensive and harmful death threats against members of Congress, and urge Republican lawmakers to vigorously do the same."

The Democratic leaders also stated that they had been in contact with security officials "to guarantee the safety of these members and their relatives."

"Donald Trump must without delay remove these unhinged digital publications and retract his aggressive language before he causes harm," the statement continued.

Officials' Defiant Reaction

The officials who appeared in the video also issued a declaration.

"We are former service members and national security professionals who love this nation and took an pledge to defend and uphold the founding document of the United States," they said. "That oath is permanent, and we intend to keep it. No warning, pressure, or incitement will deter us from that fundamental obligation."

"The significant point is that the former president deems it liable to punishment by execution for us to restate the legal requirements," they stated. "Armed forces members should understand that we have their backs as they fulfill their vow to the constitution and responsibility to adhere to only proper directives. It is not only the right thing to do, but also our duty."

They stated: "Every American must unite and condemn the ex-president's demands for our murder and partisan aggression. This is a time for ethical certainty."

Additional Political Comments

The Democratic Senate minority leader also censured Trump's comments and shared on social media: "Let's be crystal clear: the former president is demanding the death of public representatives."

He added: "This represents an outright THREAT. All senators, each house member, the entire nation – without partisan consideration – should censure this without delay and absolutely."

The Republican House speaker supported Trump's allegation that the Democrats had engaged in "treason", characterizing the video as "wildly inappropriate", adding: "It is very risky, you have leading members of the legislature advising soldiers to ignore directives, I think that is historic in the nation's past."

The Conservative representative also according to sources stated to journalists that in what he examined of Trump's publications, Trump was "defining the offense of rebellion" but that "lawyers have to analyze the wording and decide all that."

White House Statement

During a executive branch meeting on that day, when inquired by a reporter, "Does the president want to kill elected officials?", the White House press secretary responded: "Certainly not."

"We should understand about what the ex-commander in chief is responding to," the spokesperson said. "There are active officials of the US Congress who worked together to arrange a digital communication to members of the American armed forces, to active duty service members encouraging them to defy the executive's legal commands."

She added: "The purity of our military rests on the hierarchy, and if that structure is violated, it can cause casualties, it can lead to chaos, and precisely what these congressional representatives ... are essentially promoting."
