Iran Reports Strike on US Base in Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Military Operations.
Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing attack against it by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity in the area of the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any impact is unclear and the United States has yet to issue a statement.
Airspace Engagements
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - which all house US military bases - said they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was attacking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far struck sites associated with the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the leadership.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses responded to the missiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a several projectiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted debris fell on a populated district in Abu Dhabi, causing some material damage and fatalities.
The United States Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
