‘Oh How We Will Miss This Man’: The Actress Meg Ryan Shares Moving Homage to Rob Reiner

Meg Ryan has published a heartfelt tribute to the late filmmaker Rob Reiner, who directed her in the beloved rom-com When Harry Met Sally.

A Heartbreaking Event

Reiner was found dead with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their home in Los Angeles at the weekend.

“Oh how we will miss this man…” Ryan wrote on Instagram, accompanying a photo of them together. “We thank you, Rob and Michele, for your belief in true love, fairy tales, and laughter. Your trust in people's goodness and your love for this nation are remembered.”

Charges Filed

Reiner’s son Nick, 32, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and made a court appearance today. He’s being incarcerated with no bail set. Sources state that Reiner’s daughter Romy found her father’s body.

“It is my belief that from this horror, positive change and understanding can emerge,” Ryan went on to write. “While uncertain, I suspect they'd wish for a hopeful, compassionate outcome that fosters mutual understanding and peace.”

Family Members Issue a Message

Reiner’s surviving children Jake and Romy shared a statement today. “No words can convey the constant, profound sorrow we feel,” they said. “Losing our parents in such a horrific way is a devastation beyond comprehension. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”

Colleagues and Friends Remember

Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, joined in remembering Reiner via comments shared yesterday alongside tributes from Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.

“No one matched his comic instinct, his dedication to rhythmic dialogue, or his elegant sharpening of drama,” the tribute noted. “For the actors, he loved them. For the writers he made them better. Freedom was his key offering. He listened to ideas and included you in the creative journey. Collaborators felt like a unified team. Being guided by him was an honor, yet just one facet of his impact.”

A Lasting Cinematic Legacy

When Harry Met Sally was a hit with both critics and audiences in 1989, grossing more than $93 million worldwide and earning Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.

Rob Reiner first encountered Michele Singer Reiner while making When Harry Met Sally. The pair were introduced by Barry Sonnenfeld, a director and friend.

Reiner’s notable filmography comprised classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were married for 36 years.
