Aryna Sabalenka celebrating a point
The Belarusian player ended the season with an outstanding twenty-three to three Grand Slam match record.

World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second straight year.

The 27-year-old secured four tournament victories – the highest tally on the circuit – which included retaining the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth Grand Slam singles title.

A Year of Dominance

Across the season, Sabalenka competed in a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.

The Belarusian also claimed victory at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open in May. She spent the entire year as the top-ranked player, concluding 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year.

This past summer, she became the first player to top 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.

Record-Breaking Statistics

Sabalenka ended the season with a 63-12 win-loss record, and picked up a historic £11m in prize money.

She earned nearly eighty percent of the votes submitted by global tennis journalists.

On 28 December, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match in a bid to "help bring women's tennis to a new level".

Additional WTA Award Honorees

  • Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking extended hiatus after the birth of her daughter and returning to the sport earlier this season.
  • Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after beginning the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and soaring to world number 18.
  • Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were selected after winning their second career Grand Slam title as a pair.
  • Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after reaching five championship matches.

Last week, Carlos Alcaraz secured three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as fans' favourite for a third time.
